AP govt increases retirement age, gratuity for Anganwadi workers
The Andhra Pradesh government has issued a Government Order (GO) increasing the retirement age of Anganwadi workers and helpers to 62 years. Along with this, the government has also decided to enhance the gratuity benefits for retiring workers.
As per the new order, Anganwadi helpers will receive a gratuity of Rs 1 lakh, while workers will be entitled to Rs 40,000 upon retirement. This decision is expected to benefit approximately 1.20 lakh Anganwadi workers and helpers across the state. GO No. 8, formalizing these changes, was issued on Friday by Women and Child Welfare Department secretary Suryakumari.
Although the announcement had been anticipated, the official confirmation through the government order has now provided clarity. The government had previously sanctioned Rs 15,000 as funeral expenses for deceased Anganwadi workers and helpers. The latest measures reinforce the government's commitment to improving the welfare of Anganwadi staff in the State.
