Polavaram rehabilitation to be completed by 2027: CM Naidu

• Jagan’s negligence led to delays, increased costs

Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu has assured that the rehabilitation of those displaced by the Polavaram irrigation project will be completed by 2027, and only after that will water be released into the project. The government has already deposited Rs 829 crore directly into the accounts of displaced families, ensuring transparency and efficiency in the relief efforts.

Naidu emphasized that the project will be completed on time under the NDA government, with affected people receiving fair compensation and necessary support.

During a visit to the project site on Thursday, the Chief Minister conducted an aerial survey to assess progress. He later met with displaced families, listening to their concerns and challenges.

Following this, he inspected key construction areas, including the ECRF Dam gap 1, the Coffer Dam, and the diaphragm wall works, and sought updates from officials. In a high-level review meeting, he directed authorities to accelerate both construction and rehabilitation efforts to meet the 2027 deadline.

The Chief Minister criticized former CM YS Jagan Mohan Reddy, accusing him of neglecting the project, which led to delays and increased costs. He pointed out that farmers who had sacrificed their land for the project received inadequate compensation and that the previous government failed to address their issues.

Naidu reminded people that while in opposition, Jagan promised Rs 10 lakh in compensation but failed to deliver after coming to power. He further alleged that Jagan’s administration showed indifference towards the displaced, even during floods, and set aside a crucial project that should have been completed long ago.

Naidu assured that his government would investigate complaints regarding the removal of names from beneficiary lists and take corrective action to ensure fair distribution of compensation. He reaffirmed his commitment to eliminating middlemen and fraudulent practices in the rehabilitation process.

Naidu reiterated that the NDA government is committed to completing the Polavaram project without further delays. He emphasized that rehabilitation will be fully completed before water is released, ensuring the welfare of displaced families.
