CM Chandrababu Naidu Announces Crackdown on Online Betting

In a decisive move against the rising menace of online betting, Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu has announced stringent measures to curb gambling activities in the state. He revealed plans to introduce special legislation aimed at completely eradicating online betting.

While overall crime rates in the state have declined, financial crimes have seen a surge, Naidu noted. He also highlighted the reduction in cannabis cultivation but warned of the evolving sophistication of criminals. “Criminals are often intelligent and erase evidence,” he stated, citing the Y. S. Vivekananda Reddy murder case as an example of such deceptive tactics.

Stressing the role of technology in modern policing, Naidu urged law enforcement to leverage advanced tools for crime prevention. He emphasized the importance of forensic evidence collection and advised caution when handling Maoist-related cases, reiterating that public cooperation is key to effective crime control.

Online betting has become a growing social concern in Andhra Pradesh, allegedly driving financial ruin and even suicides. The widespread promotion of betting apps by film stars, YouTubers, and athletes has fueled addiction, with legal cases reportedly being filed against several celebrities involved in endorsements.

With this upcoming legislation, the state government aims to put an end to the online gambling crisis, setting the stage for stricter enforcement and regulatory action.
