YSRCP Govt damages economy : Payyavula Kesav
Andhra Pradesh Finance Minister Payyavula Keshav launched a scathing critique of the previous YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) government, accusing it of severely damaging the state’s economy through "destructive governance." While presenting the 2024-25 Budget in the AP Assembly, Keshav argued that the YSRCP regime from 2019 to 2024 led Andhra Pradesh through a "dark phase," marked by economic instability and policy missteps.
Minister Keshav highlighted the extensive financial issues he claimed were inherited by the current administration, including excessive debt, mismanagement of central funds, and alleged diversion of corporation funds. According to him, the prior government’s actions had stunted AP’s brand value, resulting in lost investor confidence and a significant setback in attracting fresh investments.
The minister underscored the impact on the State’s vital sectors, particularly irrigation, where he accused the former government of ignoring the Polavaram Project Authority’s advice, leading to years of stalled progress on the Polavaram project.
Emphasizing his commitment to revitalizing the sector, Keshav assured the Assembly that efforts are underway to expedite the Polavaram project and reaffirmed his government’s commitment to making Amaravati a world-class city. The minister stressed that the 2024-25 budget has been designed with a strong focus on welfare, aiming to foster both social and economic reconstruction.
