Former Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy has announced a series of Statewide protests, accusing the Chandrababu Naidu-led government of failing to address public issues and betraying the people of Andhra Pradesh. Speaking at a meeting with representatives of local bodies and party leaders from the joint Anantapur district, Jagan criticized the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) government for its alleged inefficiency and corruption. Jagan expressed that opposition to the Chandrababu government has reached an all-time high within just six months of its tenure, a situation unprecedented in the State's political history.
He claimed that during his tenure, the YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) had delivered benefits to every household, while the current government has allegedly deceived people with false promises. He accused the TDP government of imposing a significant burden on the public through steep increases in electricity tariffs and claimed that the sand and liquor mafias were flourishing under its rule.
He also alleged that corruption runs deep, with demands for shares in contracts and mining deals starting from the Chief Minister and extending to MLAs. Jagan criticized the weakening of the Rythu Bharosa Kendras (RBKs), the abolition of free crop insurance, and the failure to provide remunerative prices for crops, leaving farmers to sell their grain at a loss.
Addressing the issue of education, Jagan pointed out that fee reimbursements and accommodation grants totaling Rs 3,900 crore remain unpaid, leading to students dropping out of schools and colleges. He highlighted the struggles faced by families due to these pending dues and criticized the government for failing to fulfill its promises in this critical area. Announcing the protest schedule, Jagan revealed plans for demonstrations against electricity tariff hikes on December 27, where increased bills would be symbolically burned.
Further protests on January 2 and January 3 would focus on issues related to fee reimbursement, educational funding, and support for affected students and families. Jagan also accused the TDP government of manipulating water body elections, alleging that the process was undemocratic and designed to suppress dissent. He questioned the need for such elections when basic democratic principles were being disregarded.
Mocking Chandrababu Naidu’s Vision 2047 plan, Jagan dismissed it as a political drama, stating that the TDP has failed to deliver on promises made in its election manifesto. He questioned the relevance of such a vision, given the government’s alleged inability to implement meaningful development initiatives.
