Ram Gopal Varma Requests More Time to Appear for CID Inquiry
Controversial filmmaker Ram Gopal Varma was scheduled to appear before CID officials in Guntur on Monday for an inquiry. However, citing personal reasons, he informed the authorities that he would be unable to attend.
Varma stated that he was occupied with film promotions and that his schedule was particularly tight due to the release of his upcoming film on the 28th of this month. He requested an extension of eight weeks and conveyed via WhatsApp to CID Inspector Tirumala Rao that he would attend the inquiry if given a new date after this period.
It is known that a case was registered against Ram Gopal Varma last year at Maddipadu Police Station in Prakasam district. The case stemmed from a complaint filed by Telugu Desam Party (TDP) leader Ramalingam, alleging that Varma had made inappropriate comments against Chandrababu Naidu, Pawan Kalyan, and Lokesh while sharing a poster of his film Vyuham on his X (formerly Twitter) account.
Following the complaint, the police registered a case and issued notices to Varma. However, he avoided appearing for the inquiry for some months and later secured anticipatory bail through the court.
After the court directed him to cooperate with the police investigation, Ram Gopal Varma recently appeared before the authorities in Ongole. Following this, the CID issued fresh notices, but he has now requested additional time to appear for questioning. It remains to be seen whether CID officials will grant him the requested eight weeks or issue another notice compelling his attendance. The decision on this matter has become a topic of discussion.
