Cow slaughter accused shot in leg during arrest bid in UP's Bahraich

They said the man, identified as Ashraf, has been shot in the leg and is admitted to the district hospital for treatment.
According to additional superintendent of police (rural) Durga Prasad Tiwari, a case was registered after remains of cattle, including that of cows, were found in the wheat and sugarcane fields near Harchanda village under the Jarwal Road police station area on March 4.
Tiwari said the police received a tip-off that the accused would go to Harchanda village early on Saturday.
During a joint operation, the crime branch and the police team found the suspect arriving on a motorcycle at around 4 am. On seeing the police, the man allegedly tried to escape by opening fire. The police retaliated and shot at his leg.
Police said the alleged accused is undergoing treatment and information about his criminal history is being collected.
