Jagan urges PM Modi to ensure fair delimitation

• Sharmila calls for United Southern Front

Former Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy has written to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, urging him to prevent any reduction in the number of Parliamentary seats in Southern States during the upcoming delimitation exercise. He emphasized the need for a fair process that does not disadvantage any region.

Following Jagan’s directive, YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) Parliamentary Leader Y V Subba Reddy also wrote to leaders of the DMK, advocating for a balanced approach in the redivision of constituencies.

Meanwhile, Andhra Pradesh Congress chief YS Sharmila strongly opposed population-based seat allocation, warning that it would cause "irreparable loss" to Southern States. She argued that the issue transcends politics, calling it a fight for the rights of the people.

Sharmila highlighted the disparity in seat allocation, pointing out that under the current policy, Uttar Pradesh alone could gain 143 additional seats, while the combined increase for Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, and Telangana would be only 144. She questioned whether such an arrangement was just, adding that if both Uttar Pradesh and Bihar were considered together, their gain of 222 seats would far exceed the 192 seats allocated to the entire South.

Calling it "injustice to South India," Sharmila accused the Central government of pushing an agenda that disproportionately benefits northern states. She criticized the silence of Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu and Deputy CM Pawan Kalyan on the matter, calling it a betrayal of the State's interests.

Sharmila urged all major parties, including the TDP, YSRCP, and Jana Sena, to set aside political differences and take a united stand against what she termed a "discriminatory" delimitation process.
