The Andhra Pradesh government has suspended senior IPS officer and former CID additional director general of police (ADGP) N Sanjay. The suspension follows an inquiry by the Vigilance and Enforcement (V&E) wing, which reportedly found that Sanjay misappropriated Rs 1 crore during his tenure as the director general of AP State Disaster Response and Fire Services. Sanjay, a 1996-batch IPS officer, had previously headed high-profile investigations, including the alleged scam in the AP Skill Development Corporation that implicated former Chief Minister and TDP chief N Chandrababu Naidu. On September 23 last year, Sanjay played a pivotal role in Naidu's arrest in Nandyal,
leading a high-stakes CID operation. The V&E inquiry report alleges that during Sanjay’s tenure in the Disaster Response and Fire Services department, he floated tenders for creating a web portal and procuring hardware. He is accused of colluding with Vijayawada-based Sauthrika Technologies and Infra Private Limited to authorize payments, despite only 14 per cent of the work being completed. Further,
the report claims Sanjay approved payments of Rs 59.52 lakh and Rs 59.51 lakh for SC and ST awareness workshops purportedly conducted by Kritvyap Technologies Pvt Ltd of Hyderabad. However, the inquiry revealed that no such company existed at the listed address, which was instead found to house Sauthrika Technologies.
Chief secretary Neerabh Kumar Prasad issued a two-page suspension order stating that Sanjay misused government funds and necessitating his suspension pending further inquiry. The order mandates that Sanjay remain at the police headquarters and refrain from leaving without government permission.
