Rohit Sharma, the captain of the Indian cricket team, has addressed speculations surrounding his absence from the ongoing fifth Test against Australia. Speaking during the lunch break on the second day of the match, Rohit clarified to former cricketer Irfan Pathan that he has taken a break from the Sydney Test purely for personal reasons. Dismissing retirement rumors, he firmly stated, “I have not made any such decision.” He emphasized that the team’s needs always come first, which was the primary reason behind his decision to sit out the final Test.
Reflecting on the recent victory in the Perth Test, Rohit highlighted the importance of the double-century partnership between KL Rahul and Yashasvi Jaiswal. “Given their significant contribution and Rahul’s current form, we decided not to disrupt the combination,” he said. He reiterated that team welfare is his utmost priority and assured there were no internal issues within the dressing room.
Rohit also commented on his personal life, mentioning that as a father of two, he understands when to make important decisions. By taking this brief rest, he aims to strike a balance between professional commitments and personal responsibilities.
