Sunkara Padmashri demands action against obscene social media posts
Sunkara Padmashri, an All India Congress Committee (AICC) member, in her appeal to AP DGP, has called for justice regarding obscene social media posts and threats she claims to have received in 2019. Padmashri alleges that when the current DGP was the Vijayawada police commissioner, not only were offensive posts made about her and other women activists supporting farmers in Amaravati, but her personal phone number was also shared online, accompanied by threats of rape and murder.
Padmashri emphasized that she had submitted a formal complaint with the DGP at that time, providing evidence, but claimed that no justice had been delivered. She expressed concern over the lack of accountability for such acts, despite the ongoing actions being taken against social media posts from the previous government.
Padmashri also pointed out the recent media reports about Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu, Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan, and Home Minister Anita taking action against family members for similar posts made by the YSRCP Paytm batch during the previous government.
She stressed that while action is being taken for posts made against women leaders during the tenure of the former government, similar justice should be extended to opposition women leaders like herself and common citizens, who too deserve to have their dignity protected.
