Vijayawada MP Kesineni Sivanath (Chinni) on Tuesday announced that a regional office of the Union Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) will be established in Amaravati.
He made the announcement while participating in the inauguration of the modernized Passport Seva Kendra and the new Regional Passport Office (RPO) in Vijayawada. Union Minister of State for External Affairs Kirti Vardhan Singh formally inaugurated the facilities in the presence of MPs and MLAs from the region.
The upgraded Passport Seva Kendra and the RPO were inaugurated at Stalin Central Mall, where a plaque was unveiled by the Union Minister. Singh was welcomed with traditional honours, including a bouquet, a shawl, and a Kondapalli statue.
Addressing the gathering, MP Kesineni expressed gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu, and Union Minister Kirti Vardhan Singh for facilitating the opening of the regional MEA office in the Amaravati region. He also lauded Regional Passport Officer K Sivaharsha for transforming the office into a hassle-free, corporate-standard service center.
He said that the expansion of passport services in Vijayawada, alongside Visakhapatnam, would significantly reduce delays. Passports will now be issued within a week to ten days, he said. On average, 600 to 2,000 applications are being received daily, and the office issues around 3 lakh passports annually, he added.
