A significant agreement was inked between the Andhra Pradesh government and Google at the AP Secretariat, marking a significant leap towards transforming the State into a hub for artificial intelligence (AI) innovations . The memorandum of understanding (MoU) was signed in the presence of minister for IT and HRD Nara Lokesh, with Google Maps India general manager Lalita Ramani and AP Real-Time Governance Society secretary Suresh Kumar leading the collaboration. This strategic collaboration, which focuses on skill development, startup ecosystem growth, and the integration of AI in key sectors, promises to reshape the state’s economic and technological landscape.
As part of the MoU, Google will spearhead skill development training programs across schools and colleges in Andhra Pradesh to align with global advancements in AI. These programs will also cater to startups, traditional industries, and small businesses, fostering an environment conducive to technological growth.
The partnership will see Google supporting AI and machine learning (ML) solutions in critical sectors such as healthcare and environmental sustainability. This collaboration also focuses on building robust digital infrastructure by equipping the youth with essential skills for thriving in an AI-driven economy. Lalita Ramani emphasized that the agreement aligns with Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu’s vision of leveraging AI to provide faster, more efficient governance. She stated that Google’s mission is to harness AI for societal benefits by prioritizing research that addresses the world's most critical challenges. Through collaborative efforts, the company aims to catalyze progress and innovation in AI-based services for Andhra Pradesh.
Nara Lokesh reiterated that his government prioritizes ease of living, aiming to deliver essential services and certifications digitally, eliminating the need for physical visits to government offices. He expressed optimism about the opportunities this partnership would create for the State’s youth, empowering them with future-ready skills. The MoU's primary objective is to establish an AI-based ecosystem in Andhra Pradesh.
He highlighted Google’s crucial role in nurturing a workforce skilled in AI, simplifying complex processes, and fostering a vibrant startup ecosystem. Under the partnership, Google will offer a course called Essentials, training 10,000 students and developers in AI-based skills. The curriculum will focus on utilizing AI in daily life to enhance productivity and efficiency. Certifications in cybersecurity, data analytics, and generative AI will also be made available through Google Cloud programs. Google plans to collaborate with government agencies for skilling programs and provide technical support to educators to address the growing demand for computer science education. Google’s commitment extends to fostering a robust startup ecosystem by promoting innovation, entrepreneurship, and mentorship.
Access to Google’s startup accelerator programs will enhance networking opportunities for local entrepreneurs. In addition to skill development, Google’s initiatives aim to address critical challenges in healthcare, agriculture, traffic management, and urban planning. AI-driven pilot projects in areas like patient health outcomes, air quality monitoring, and disaster management will serve as benchmarks for leveraging technology for public benefit. At the event, EDB CEO Saikanth Verma, RTGS CEO Dinesh Kumar, Chief Minister's Office secretary Karthikeya Mishra, and AP Government Investments Department senior officer Yuvraj highlighted the strategic importance of this initiative.
