Andhra Pradesh Congress chief Sharmila has come down heavily on the Telugu Desam-led NDA government for failing to implement its election promise of free travel in RTC buses for women, despite being in power for over a month. Highlighting the success of similar schemes in Telangana and Karnataka under Congress rule, Sharmila pointed out that free bus travel for women was made available on the second day of the Congress government’s formation in Telangana and within three weeks in Karnataka.
She questioned chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu on the delay and urged immediate implementation of the scheme along with the rest of the “Super Six” promises. Sharmila also criticized the lack of clarity on the Ammaki Vandanam scheme. She demanded clear communication from the government on whether the promised Rs 15,000 would be given to mothers or their children, emphasizing the need to fulfill the promise for all children as stated during the elections.
She also targeted YSR Congress chief Jagan Mohan Reddy, accusing him of failing to deliver on the Amma Vodi scheme, which was supposed to benefit all children. Furthermore, Sharmila lambasted the government’s handling of the Visakhapatnam Steel Plant issue, accusing it of creating confusion over the plant’s privatization.
She criticized Prime Minister Narendra Modi for not fulfilling promises made to Andhra Pradesh and demanded a clear stance on the plant’s future.
Sharmila also condemned the destruction of YSR idols, warning of large-scale agitations if it continued. In her scathing critique, Sharmila accused the YSR Congress Party of aligning too closely with the BJP, compromising the state’s interests. She asserted that the Congress party is independent and challenged its detractors to prove otherwise. Sharmila expressed confidence in Chandrababu Naidu’s leadership, emphasizing his experience and the trust placed in him by the people of Andhra Pradesh
