Telugu Desam Party (TDP) workers pelted stones at the house of former MP Reddappa, where YSR Congress MP Mithun Reddy was staying, in Punganur. This incident sparked high tension in the area. The altercation began when Rajampet MP Mithun Reddy visited former MP Reddappa’s house. TDP leaders and cadre, who blocked Mithun Reddy, raised slogans against him, leading to a heated exchange.
Violence erupted when TDP activists attempted to storm Reddappa’s residence, throwing stones at YSRC supporters, who retaliated in kind. In the ensuing chaos, the MP’s security personnel fired two rounds in self-defense as TDP activists attempted further attacks. Rajampet MP Mithun Reddy arrived in Punganur on Thursday morning to meet former Chittoor MP Reddappa.
Upon learning of this, TDP and Janasena activists surrounded Reddappa’s house and began pelting stones despite the presence of police. In response, YCP supporters gathered in large numbers to defend Reddappa’s residence. The clash left many policemen and activists injured. As the situation escalated, police resorted to firing rubber bullets and using tear gas to control the activists from the TDP and Janasena.
A large number of vehicles were destroyed in the attacks, further intensifying the tense atmosphere in Punganur. The YSRCP criticized Peddireddy Ramachandra Reddy, the Punganur MLA, for being prevented from entering his constituency, alleging that similar agitations occur whenever he attempts to visit.
Former MP Reddappa accused TDP leaders of orchestrating the attack on his house. He claimed that TDP activists came with stones and sticks, specifically targeting Mithun Reddy. Reddappa alleged that hundreds of TDP activists surrounded his house, destroying cars and furniture, while the police stood by as spectators. In light of the tense situation, Mithun Reddy was placed under house arrest by the police
