Nani on HIT 3 and the Rise of Violence in Cinema: “We’re Part of the Cycle”

Natural Star Nani is currently in full swing promoting his upcoming thriller HIT 3, set for a grand release on May 1st. The film’s promotional material has already sparked conversations due to its high dose of violence—a notable shift from Nani’s usual repertoire.

When asked about the growing trend of violence being normalized in cinema, Nani offered a candid perspective. Rather than defending the level of violence in HIT 3, he acknowledged his own role in this cinematic evolution.

“Yes, it’s a cycle,” he said. “We also must join the trend to complete it.”

Nani reflected on how cinematic storytelling has shifted over the years, giving a light-hearted example: “There was a time when a shaking tree was used to convey a kissing scene. Now, liplocks are the norm. It’s how trends evolve.”

Touching upon the differing standards of censorship between theatrical releases and OTT platforms, Nani agreed that the contrast is stark. Referencing films like Waltair Veerayya, which had a U/A rating in theatres but was marked A on Netflix, he noted, “Intense violence has definitely been normalized.”

Nani also pointed to Hollywood’s Kill Bill as an example of how one successful film can spark an entire trend. “Eventually, every trend fades. So if people start feeling it’s too much, it means the cycle is close to ending,” he observed.

Directed by Sailesh Kolanu, HIT 3 also stars Srinidhi Shetty and promises a gripping ride—albeit one with more edge than fans may be used to from Nani.
