Anurag Kashyap Issues Apology After Controversial Remark Sparks Backlash

Anurag Kashyap, often labeled as a controversial filmmaker, has once again found himself at the center of a heated debate. Known for his outspoken views, Kashyap has been increasingly critical of Bollywood and has recently shifted his focus to South Indian cinema, appearing in several upcoming projects.

However, a recent remark related to the Hindi film Phule has landed him in serious trouble. During a discussion about casteism, Kashyap reportedly made a highly offensive statement, saying he would “pee on Brahmins”—a comment that quickly went viral and sparked widespread outrage.

Following severe backlash and threats directed toward his family and colleagues, Kashyap took to Instagram to issue a public apology.

“This is my apology—not for my post, but for that one line taken out of context and the brewing hatred,” he wrote. “No action or speech is worth your daughter, family, friends, and colleagues getting rape and death threats from the kingpins of sanskar (tradition).”

Kashyap emphasized that his family, including his daughter, had been receiving disturbing threats in the wake of the controversy.

His apology comes after formal complaints were filed in Indore. A man named Anoop Shukla lodged a complaint with the police, and advocate Ashish Rai also submitted a petition, calling for action from the Mumbai Police Commissioner.

On the professional front, Kashyap is gearing up for his next role in the Telugu film Dacoit, where he stars alongside Adivi Sesh.
