Kodandaram and Aamir Ali Khan have been sworn in as MLCs in Telangana, ending the controversy over their appointment. They took their oath today, and the program was attended by Legislative Council Chairman Gutta Sukhender Reddy, along with several ministers and MLCs who congratulated the newly elected members. The Congress government had proposed their names to the Governor of Telangana, Tamilisai, who then nominated them as MLCs. However, BRS leaders Dasoju Shravan and Kurra Satyanarayana filed a petition in the High Court, which resulted in a stay on the election.
Revanth Sarkar recently received relief from the Supreme Court, as it gave the green signal to the appointment of Governor’s quota MLCs, overturning the High Court’s stay order. Despite petitions from BRS leaders to prevent new appointments, the Supreme Court rejected their pleas, stating that new appointments are the government’s responsibility. Further hearing on the matter has been adjourned for four weeks, and the High Court’s stay order has been stayed until further orders by the bench of Justice Vikramnath.
