The government has proposed a central assistance of Rs 2.2 lakh crore for urban housing over the next five years. Additionally, an interest subsidy scheme will be introduced to facilitate loans at affordable rates for urban housing projects. These announcements were made by Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman in the Union Budget 2024-25. Furthermore, the government plans to implement measures to create an efficient and transparent rental housing market with increased availability.
The minister has also proposed transit-oriented development plans for large cities with a population of over 30 lakh. Additionally, a scheme to support the development of 100 weekly haats over the next five years has been proposed. Moreover, the government aims to develop digital public infrastructure applications in seven areas, including those related to credit and MSME service delivery.
