Amaravati: The election alliance with BJP and Jana Sena may ultimately lead the TDP to increase chances of returning to power in the forthcoming elections.

Actually, it is an open secret in political circles that the TDP has a fair chance to win the elections due to the anti-incumbency factor. Indeed, the political circles are of the view that the TDP has a chance to win the election even if it contests alone.

But the TDP is in a worried position particularly on two points based on previous election experience. It has faced a humiliating defeat in the last assembly elections due to lapses in poll management following the non- cooperation of the government machinery. As a result, the TDP candidates remained mute spectators. Apart from this, presently the YSRCP is holding power in the government and the leaders of that party are aggressive.

In this backdrop, the TDP brass did not want to take any risk even though some leaders opposed the alliance.  As per the ground reports, the rank and file of Jana Sena are strong to face any kind of violence in the election battle along with the traditional TDP’s cadre support.

The BJP will also naturally extend its possible cooperation since it is in power at the Centre. The TDP has got moral support from this alliance and it will influence the voting pattern too, according to Sankar Naidu, who worked in various positions in Telugu Desam party since 1983.

The ground reports reveal that the TDP is in a good position in 19 Lok Sabha constituencies. The 3-party combination will increase winning chances in two more Lok Sabha seats. But the vote transfer from TDP cadre is a challenging task when the people are in a bit of angry mood against the BJP. It is apt to recall that it had received only below one per cent voting in the recent elections. The sources say, the BJP may come forward with some assurances for the development of Andhra Pradesh before the elections.
