Setting a global benchmark, the Government of Andhra Pradesh organized the world’s largest Parent-Teacher Meeting on Saturday, involving 45,094 government and aided schools across the state. The massive initiative saw participation from 35 lakh students, 71 lakh parents, 1,88,266 teachers, and over 50,000 public representatives, making it a record-breaking event. Speaking at the event, minister for IT and HRD Nara Lokesh highlighted the significance of the Parent-Teacher Meeting, emphasizing its transformative potential.

"Parent-Teacher Meetings happen everywhere, but ours is unique for its scale and the deep connection it fosters between schools and parents. This bond paves the way for a golden future for our students," Lokesh said. He underscored how such meetings would help address school-level challenges while enabling parents to closely monitor their children’s academic progress. A key highlight of the initiative was the introduction of Holistic Progress Cards for students. These comprehensive cards not only track academic performance but also include health assessments conducted in collaboration with the Health Department. Lokesh explained that the health data would empower parents and teachers to ensure better care for children, fostering overall well-being alongside academic growth.

The Minister also discussed reforms being implemented to improve the education system. Chief among them is the government’s commitment to filling all vacant teaching positions within six months through a mega District Selection Committee (DSC). Lokesh announced that teachers would be relieved of non-teaching duties, allowing them to focus entirely on their primary responsibility of educating students.

Another major announcement was the allocation of Rs 944 crore for the Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan Vidyarthi Mitra Student Kits, which provide essential learning materials to students from Class 1 to 12. He also lauded the Dokka Seethamma Midday Meal Scheme, which ensures nutritious and culturally relevant meals for lakhs of students across the state. In line with Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu’s vision, the government has eliminated political symbols and activities from schools to maintain an apolitical and focused learning environment. Lokesh further stressed the importance of incorporating values, morals, and ethics into the curriculum, ensuring holistic development for the next generation.
