Andhra Pradesh has signed two Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) aimed at transforming the state into a green energy skills hub. Suzlon Energy Limited has inked an agreement with the Andhra Pradesh State Skill Development Corporation (APSSDC) to roll out the nation’s largest wind energy skill development program. The MoU was signed at Minister for IT and HRD Nara Lokesh’s residence in Undavalli, in the presence of key dignitaries, including Suzlon Group CEO JP Chalasani and APSSDC MD Ganesh Kumar. The initiative, aimed at transforming Andhra Pradesh into a wind energy skills hub within four years, targets the training of 12,000 individuals in domains such as mechanical, electrical, blade technology, civil engineering, and licensing. Minister Lokesh highlighted the significance of the partnership, stating,
“This collaboration will equip AP’s youth with international skills, opening doors to global opportunities in the clean energy sector.” As part of the agreement, training programs ranging from short-term courses of 3 to 12 months to long-term sessions exceeding a year will be offered. Vocational and elective programs tailored for ITI, diploma, and engineering colleges will also be introduced, supported by the establishment of skill labs in selected institutions.
Additionally, Centers of Excellence (COEs) dedicated to advanced research and innovation in wind energy technologies will be set up, enabling students to earn globally recognized certifications. Suzlon will play a pivotal role in setting up the required infrastructure, including procuring equipment, developing industry-aligned curricula, training certified trainers, and ensuring global certification standards. Green Skilling with Swaniti Initiative In another significant step, APSSDC has signed an MoU with Swaniti Initiative, a social organization known for its work in public service delivery and policy-making for marginalized groups.
This agreement focuses on developing a green skilling strategy for the renewable energy sector. Swaniti will draft a comprehensive skill development strategy within four months, conducting assessments and consulting stakeholders like industry associations, training institutions, and global experts. The initiative will identify key sectors and green job opportunities, particularly in districts like Anantapur, Chittoor, Kadapa, Kurnool, and Nellore.
APSSDC will facilitate the establishment of skill labs and COEs, connect students with local industries, and support apprenticeship opportunities. A baseline survey will be conducted to evaluate green job creation potential, with a focus on aligning training programs to meet industry demands.
