The Krishna River embankment is under severe threat as floodwaters continue to surge, overwhelming the Prakasam Barrage and exerting pressure on the river’s upper reaches. The embankment near Venkatayapalem, particularly in the Karakatta area, has shown signs of leakage, alarming local residents. In a desperate attempt to prevent further damage, locals quickly filled bags with sand and gravel to temporarily seal the leakage.

However, reports indicate that minor leaks persist, raising concerns of potential breaches. The situation is equally dire in nearby villages like Pidaparthipalem, where the threat of encroachment is growing as floodwaters rise. Residents recall previous incidents in the village involving the use of kerosene to prevent damage during floods, reflecting the ongoing vulnerability of these areas. Similarly, the downstream villages are also facing significant risks. The unusual flood flow is posing a serious threat to the Lankan villages in Diviseema.
