AP Govt to Build 12,500 Water Tanks for Livestock

Recognizing the challenges faced by farmers in providing drinking water and fodder for livestock, the Andhra Pradesh government has launched a major initiative to support the dairy and livestock sector.

Under the directive of Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan, the Animal Husbandry Department has identified the need for 12,500 water tanks across the state. These tanks will be constructed using funds from the Employment Guarantee Scheme, with a budget allocation of ₹56.25 crore. The Panchayat Raj and Rural Development Department has been tasked with completing the project by April 15.

Rapid Implementation to Support Livestock
The construction of these tanks began on the first day of the financial year, with groundbreaking ceremonies held across multiple districts. Pawan Kalyan, in a virtual meeting with officials, emphasized the urgency of ensuring adequate water supply for rural livestock before peak summer.

Each tank is being built at a cost of ₹45,000, aiming to provide water for 25 lakh cattle and other livestock. Officials have already identified construction sites, and work is progressing swiftly.

Boost to Dairy Industry and Rural Economy
With this initiative, the government aims to prevent water shortages for cattle during the summer, ensuring stable milk production and economic security for farmers. Pawan Kalyan is personally overseeing the project, reaffirming the government’s commitment to livestock welfare and rural development.
