State Tourism, Culture, and Cinematography Minister Kandula Durgesh announced plans to develop four iconic tourist centers in Andhra Pradesh with a budget of Rs 400 crores. The project, supported by the Centre under the Sasi (Scheme for Special Assistance to States for Capital Investment) scheme, aims to promote tourism across the state over the next five years. Minister Durgesh revealed that Srisailam, in Nandyala district, will be developed as an eco-tourism and spiritual hub, while a tourist circuit will be created around the local tiger reserve and waterfalls.
The second center, named “Akhanda Godavari,” will encompass areas of Kakinada, Konaseema, East and West Godavari, and Eluru districts. The beach corridor in Bapatla district, with resorts planned for Suryalanka, will be the third center, while Sangameswaram in Nandyala will be developed as the fourth iconic tourist destination. Efforts are also underway to establish a mega tourism hub in Amaravati, with a comprehensive development plan (DPR) set to be approved by October 15.
World Tourism Day celebrations, scheduled for September 27 in Vijayawada, will feature awards for tourism-related achievements across 38 categories. Durgesh emphasized that Andhra Pradesh is attracting investors to its tourism sector, with companies like Oberoi and Mayfair expressing interest in developing resorts in Tirupati, Gandikota, and Picchukalank.
Additionally, efforts are being made to enhance facilities at popular destinations like Rushikonda Beach, which will be developed as Blue Flag Beach. In Rajamahendravaram, plans are in place to beautify the riverfront ahead of the 2027 Godavari Pushkaralu, with further development linked to the Pattiseema and Polavaram irrigation projects. The State’s rich natural beauty, spiritual heritage, and growing infrastructure are set to make it a major tourism hub in the coming years.
