The Andhra Pradesh Cabinet convened on Tuesday, making significant decisions on several key issues, including the repeal of the Land Titling Act, the introduction of a new sand policy, and the formation of a committee to finalize procedures for crop insurance premium payments.
The meeting, chaired by chief minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu, underscored the government’s commitment to addressing critical concerns in agriculture and infrastructure. In a major move, the Cabinet appointed a committee comprising three ministers to determine the modalities for the payment of premiums for the crop insurance scheme.
The committee includes Agriculture minister Acham Naidu, Revenue minister Angani, and Civil Supplies minister Nadendla Manohar.
The Cabinet has instructed this committee to engage with officials and reach a decision within two days, evaluating whether premium payments should be made voluntarily by farmers or covered by the government. A report on the findings is expected shortly.
In a significant move aimed at addressing public concerns and improving land administration, the Cabinet approved the repeal of the Land Titling Act.
This decision fulfills a promise made by Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu during the recent general elections. The repeal of this contentious act was pivotal in garnering public support, particularly in opposition to the YSR Congress party.
Additionally, the Cabinet approved the new sand policy, which will soon see the establishment of necessary procedures to ensure its effective implementation. In support of the State’s agricultural sector, the Cabinet sanctioned a government guarantee for a Rs. 2,000 crore loan to the Civil Supplies Department.
This loan is intended to bolster the department’s capacity to manage essential supplies. Furthermore, the Cabinet approved a government guarantee for a Rs. 3,200 crore loan from the National Cooperative Development Corporation (NCDC) for the Agriculture and Co-operative Corporation, earmarked for the purchase of grain from farmers
