The Uttarakhand High Court has instructed the state government to solicit tenders for finishing the essential infrastructure work at the Nanhi Pari Seemant Engineering College in Pithoragarh and commence regular classes there. Chief Justice Ritu Bahri and Justice Rakesh Thapliyal, a division bench, issued these directives on Tuesday. The college, situated 15 km from Pithoragarh, was constructed at a cost of Rs 14.5 crore. However, the classes had to be relocated to the KNU Government Secondary School after the first floor of the college was filled with debris due to landslides in the area. A controversy arose as despite the state government spending Rs 14.5 crore on its construction, classes could not be conducted there. The High Court took note of the matter and requested a report from the administration. During the hearing, it was mentioned that classes will continue in 10 prefabricated rooms on the campus of the nearby Government Secondary College. Additionally, an alternative route is proposed to be built from Pithoragarh city via Chandak, reducing the distance of the institute from the city from 15 km to only three-and-a-half km. Upon hearing the petition, the court stated that after initiating the tender process, the state government should update the court on its progress within four weeks to avoid further delays in the construction of the building.
