Hyderabad: The Election Commission of India (ECI) has issued a notice to Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) president K Chandrasekhar Rao (KCR) following a complaint lodged by G Niranjan, senior vice-president of the Telangana Congress party. The complaint alleged that KCR made vulgar, derogatory, and objectionable allegations against the Congress Party during a press meet in Sircilla on April 5.
The ECI directed the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) of Telangana to provide a factual report on the matter. In response, the CEO forwarded a report from the District Election Officer, Rajanna Sircilla District, confirming certain remarks made by KCR during the press meet. These remarks included criticism of the Congress Party, allegations of incompetence, and derogatory statements.
The Commission noted that such remarks, which lack verified facts and are derogatory in nature, may violate the Model Code of Conduct (MCC). Referring to past instances where KCR was cautioned regarding MCC adherence, the Commission emphasised the importance of maintaining decorum during the election process
