The police in Vijayawada are delving into potential conspiracy connections surrounding the recent incident where five boats collided with the Prakasam Barrage during the recent floods. These boats, used for sand transportation, were secured with only plastic ropes, a measure deemed inadequate for their size and the prevailing flood conditions. Concerns have been raised about the practice of tying these boats together rather than anchoring them individually.
Allegations have emerged from the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) suggesting that the owners of these boats are affiliated with the YSR Congress. They are accused of displaying party colors on their boats to avoid scrutiny regarding illegal sand mining activities conducted during the YSR Congress regime. Reports indicate that these boats, originally moored at Uddandarayu’s Palem, were reportedly relocated towards Gollapudi amidst the floods.
Investigations are ongoing to verify these claims. Local warnings regarding the increasing flood levels and the associated risks to the boats were reportedly ignored by the boat owners. As a result, three boats broke loose and collided with the barrage, while two others caused additional damage. Officials noted that had the boats struck the barrage pillars directly instead of the counterweights of the barrage gates, the resulting damage could have been catastrophic.
Ushadri and Rammohan, the individuals responsible for the boats, have been identified as supporters of YSRCP leaders. The police are conducting a thorough investigation into their call data and other relevant activities. Government and official sources are treating this incident as potentially more than mere negligence, suspecting a possible conspiracy. Despite the ongoing investigation, clarity on all aspects of the case remains uncertain.
