Salman Khan’s Sikandar: A Misstep in the South Director Trend?

Bollywood’s latest trend is to trust South Indian directors for delivering blockbusters. Superstar Salman Khan followed suit, collaborating with AR Murugadoss for his latest film, Sikandar. However, the decision backfired, as Murugadoss failed to deliver the expected success.

Released on Eid, Sikandar was anticipated to be a solid commercial entertainer. However, it turned out to be a routine social drama, lacking freshness and impact. While directors like Sandeep Reddy Vanga and Atlee Kumar are redefining commercial cinema, Murugadoss—despite his experience—failed to align with current trends.

The film opened to mixed reviews, with critics and audiences alike blaming its predictable screenplay and outdated execution. Murugadoss’ directorial approach neither left an impression nor resonated with fans.

Rashmika Mandanna played the female lead, but her role, like the film itself, failed to make an impact.

With Sikandar underperforming, it remains to be seen whether Salman Khan will continue his South director experiment or rethink his approach for future projects.
