In a significant development, the Andhra Pradesh High Court conducted a hearing on Wednesday regarding a petition seeking to transfer seven cases against Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI). Advocate General Dammala Pati Srinivas objected to the petition’s merit, asserting his intent to file a comprehensive counter.
Senior advocate Mukul Rohatgi, representing the State government, presented arguments during the proceedings. Rohatgi emphasized that the mere position of Chandrababu Naidu as Chief Minister does not automatically warrant a CBI investigation.
He informed the court that investigations have already concluded in five of the cases, with charge sheets already filed. Moreover, it was highlighted that the government has expressed its intention to reassess the cases concerning the political party’s involvement.
The bench raised queries regarding the authority of the public prosecutor in determining the government’s decision on case reviews. Following these discussions, the bench directed the advocate general to submit a detailed counter addressing the petition’s merits. The Chief Justice’s bench subsequently adjourned further hearing on the case.
