TDP leader N Chandrababu Naidu is set to be sworn in as the chief minister of Andhra Pradesh on Wednesday, marking his fourth term in that role. The swearing-in ceremony is scheduled to take place at 11:27 am at Kesarapalli IT Park near Gannavaram Airport on the outskirts of Vijayawada.
On Tuesday, the Telugu Desam Legislature Party and NDA partners elected Naidu as their leader. The NDA, which comprises TDP, BJP, and Janasena, will meet Governor S Abdul Nazeer to stake claim to form a government, and an invitation from the Governor to form the government is expected by Tuesday evening.
In addition to Naidu, other leaders like TDP general secretary and Naidu’s son Nara Lokesh and Janasena leader N Manohar are also likely to be sworn in. The swearing-in ceremony is expected to be attended by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and several other dignitaries.
The Chief Secretary Neerabh Kumar Prasad has reviewed the arrangements for the ceremony, stating that the Prime Minister is expected to arrive at Gannavaram Airport at 10:40 am on Wednesday, and reach the venue by 10:55 am to participate in the swearing-in ceremony from 11 am to 12:30 pm. Afterwards, the PM is expected to return to the airport at 12:40 pm and depart for Bhubaneswar at 12:45 pm.
Naidu first became the chief minister in 1995 and had two more terms. He served as the chief minister for nine years continuously, presiding over the united Andhra Pradesh from 1995 to 2004. His third term came after the state’s bifurcation. He then became the chief minister of bifurcated Andhra Pradesh in 2014 and served until 2019.
After losing the 2019 polls, Naidu continued as an opposition leader until his recent landslide victory in the 2024 elections, which marks his return for the fourth term as the CM.
The NDA, which includes TDP, BJP, and Janasena, secured a dominating victory in the simultaneous Lok Sabha and Assembly elections in Andhra Pradesh, winning with a significant majority of 164 Assembly and 21 Lok Sabha seats.
