The weavers community of Mangalagiri town are lucky as they will be given tip priority in the appointment of nominated posts. The fate of Mangalagiri weavers has completely changed with utmost priority in all aspects since TDP general secretary Nara Lokesh represented from Mangalagiri Assembly constituency.
After TDP came to power, the leaders of the weaving community got three important nominated positions in the recent appointments. Senior TDP leader Nandam Abaddaiah was appointed as chairman of AP Weavers Federation in the first list. Former BJP leader Tammisetty Janaki Devi who joined the TDP before the Assembly elections got a TTD member’s position.
Besides Jana Sena leader of Mangalagiri town Chillapalli Srinivasa Rao has been appointed as chairman of AP Medical Infrastructure Development Corporation. The Mangalagiri town is well known for weavers and sarees. The art of handicraft has a 500- year old history. So far, people of the community were neglected and they faced several hardships to lead their regular life. But the representation of Nara Lokesh changed their fate in all aspects.
Nara Lokesh has already distributed the modernized spinning wheels for free of cost to many weavers. Similarly, the weavers of Mangalagiri entered a tie-up with the TATA Taneria with the help of Nara Lokesh and his team. As a result, now the TATA Taneria will give orders directly to Mangalagiri weavers and also purchase their produce without middlemen.
It is a big relief to Mangalagiri weavers. Lokesh has implemented the Pellikanuka and many other welfare schemes during the last five years though he was defeated in his maiden election. The population of weavers are nearly 50 000 in Mangalagiri town and surrounding villages.
Nara Lokesh, the future leader of TDP is taking steps to change their fate. The State government has also plans to appoint one more weavers community person for Goldsmith Corporation. Panchumarthi Anuradha is also the representative of the same community elevated with Member in the Council of Andhra Pradesh. Once in the past, the party leadership had offered MLA ticket to her for Mangalagiri Assembly.
