CID registered case against 17 hospitals
The Chief Minister’s Relief Fund (CMRF) scandal has sent shockwaves across Telangana, as the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) uncovers fraudulent activities involving multiple hospitals. The CID has identified 17 hospitals across Hyderabad, Ranga Reddy, Nalgonda, Karimnagar, and Mahbubabad districts that allegedly claimed CMRF funds using fake bills without providing any medical treatment to patients.
The investigation has revealed a widespread conspiracy, with hospitals fabricating bills and making false claims for non-existent treatments. The quality and operations of these hospitals have come under scrutiny, exposing severe lapses. The scam, which initially came to light last year following a complaint from the revenue department, highlighted how these hospitals, in collusion with local leaders and officials, drew funds by falsely certifying treatments for major illnesses that existed only on paper.
Earlier in the investigation, the police had arrested four individuals linked to this scam. In a particularly egregious case, administrators from two hospitals submitted fake bills amounting to Rs 6 lakh. The CID has now registered cases of forgery and cheating against these hospitals, signaling a broader crackdown on the fraudulent practices that have plagued the State’s healthcare system. The CMRF scandal, which traces its roots to the tenure of the previous government, has led to swift action from the current administration.
Chief Minister Revanth Reddy has ordered a comprehensive CID investigation to hold those responsible accountable and to restore public trust in the state’s healthcare provisions. As the investigation deepens, more revelations are expected to emerge, shedding light on the extent of corruption within the healthcare sector in Telangana.
