The jury panel for the 77th Cannes Film Festival Competition has been announced. It includes Lily Gladstone from “The Killers of the Flower Moon”, Palme d’Or-winning Japanese director Hirokazu Kore-eda, and French actors Eva Green and Omar Sy. The panel will be headed by “Barbie” filmmaker Greta Gerwig. According to the festival website, the nine-member jury also includes Ebru Ceylan, a Turkish screenwriter and photographer, Nadine Labaki, a Lebanese director and screenwriter, Juan Antonio Bayona, a Spanish director, and Pierfrancisco Favino, an Italian actor.
The panel comprises five women and four men, with Gerwig awarding the Palme d’Or to one of the 22 films in competition at the closing ceremony on May 25.
The competing films include Francis Ford Coppola’s passion project “Megalopolis”, Yorgos Lanthimos’ “Kinds of Kindness”, David Cronenberg’s “The Shrouds”, Ali Abbasi’s “The Apprentice”, and “All We Imagine As Light”, directed by Payal Kapadia.
Last year’s Palme d’Or winner was Justine Triet’s courtroom drama “Anatomy of a Fall”, starring Sandra Huller.
The 77th Cannes Film Festival will open on May 14 with “The Second Act”, a surreal comedy from French director Quentin Dupieux, starring Lea Seydoux and Vincent Lindon.
