Tension has been simmering for days in Kadapa and Anantapuram districts as a fierce dispute over the transport of flyash from the Rayalaseema Thermal Power Plant (RTPP) escalates between Tadipatri Telugu Desam Party (TDP) leader and municipal chairman JC Prabhakar Reddy and Jammalamadugu BJP MLA P Adinarayana Reddy.
The clash has prompted the deployment of hundreds of police personnel near RTPP and at the borders of Kadapa and Anantapur districts, as "talks" betweenthe two factions have yet to yield any resolution. The conflict, which has been ongoing for nearly a week, revolves around exclusive “rights” to transport flyash from RTPP, with both groups asserting dominance and barring others from participating. Despite the open rowdyism displayed by both factions, the State government and authorities have remained largely silent, except for reports that Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu has expressed serious displeasure over the incident. Police forces have maintained a continuous presence near RTPP and at border checkpoints in Kondapuram mandal, which separates Kadapa and Anantapur districts.
Lorries belonging to JC Prabhakar Reddy, which had arrived from Tadipatri two days ago to collect flyash, were stopped near RTPP after being blocked by supporters of Adinarayana Reddy. JC Prabhakar Reddy's drivers insist that they cannot leave without securing their load of flyash, intensifying the standoff. NDA leaders at loggerheads Interestingly, both leaders belong to NDA alliance parties, with JC Prabhakar Reddy representing the TDP and P Adinarayana Reddy from the BJP. While RTPP falls under the jurisdiction of Jammalamadugu constituency, Adinarayana Reddy has asserted that activities in his constituency should be under his control.
On the other hand, JC Prabhakar Reddy has been transporting flyash from RTPP to cement factories in Tadipatri, sparking the ongoing conflict. The BJP faction has pledged not to allow JC's vehicles to operate in RTPP. In response, the TDP camp has accused Adinarayana Reddy’s supporters of deploying strong-arm tactics, further exacerbating the tension.
This isn’t the first time these leaders have courted controversy. Recently, Adinarayana Reddy's followers allegedly disrupted industrial operations at a site associated with the Adani Group, demanding their vehicles be used for transportation. Meanwhile, JC Diwakar Reddy stirred controversy by demanding a 20 per cent share in profits from new liquor shops during a public press conference. Both leaders have now shifted focus to the lucrative flyash transport from RTPP, with neither willing to cede ground. Adinarayana Reddy’s faction claims exclusive rights to transport flyash in their vehicles, while JC Prabhakar Reddy’s camp argues that transportation to Tadipatri should fall under their jurisdiction.
The clash has reportedly drawn the ire of Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu, who has allegedly reprimanded both leaders. However, this has done little to de-escalate tensions on the ground, where heavy police deployment continues to prevent potential violence. As the standoff drags on, industrial circles and local residents have expressed concern over the political turmoil overshadowing administrative governance in the region. Both factions remain adamant, with police working overtime to maintain law and order near RTPP.
