The Andhra Pradesh High Court rejected filmmaker Ram Gopal Varma's petition to dismiss a case registered against him in Prakasam district. The court advised Varma to file a bail petition if he feared arrest.
The case stems from social media posts made by Varma before the assembly elections, allegedly targeting then-opposition leader Chandrababu Naidu and Janasena chief Pawan Kalyan. Acting on a complaint filed by TDP leader Mutthanapalli Ramalingam, the police registered the case. Varma’s advocates sought relief from arrest by approaching the High Court, which directed him to resolve procedural issues with the police.
The court also declined to intervene in requests for an extension of time for attending police hearings, leaving it to the discretion of the authorities. As police summoned Varma for a hearing on Tuesday, uncertainty looms over his attendance
