The Telangana State government has intensified its efforts to reclaim public land around Durgam Cheruvu by issuing demolition notices to several properties, including those belonging to influential individuals such as bureaucrats, film celebrities, and wealthy residents.
The government has given a one-month deadline for the voluntary demolition of these structures, failing which, the State will proceed with the demolition itself. In a move that has shocked many, notices were even served to the rented house and office of Tirupathi Reddy, the brother of Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy, located within the Madapur Amar Cooperative Society. This area falls under the Full Tank Level (FTL) of Durgam Cheruvu, and the government has made it clear that no one, regardless of their connections, will be exempt from these actions.
The Revanth Reddy-led government issued notices under Section 23(1) of the Water, Land, and Trees Act (WALTA) to owners of hundreds of properties across four colonies near Durgam Cheruvu in a single day. The notices were direct: “Will you demolish, or shall we demolish?” making it clear that the state is serious about reclaiming the encroached lands. This crackdown is part of a larger operation aimed at removing illegal structures around water bodies in the Serilingampally mandal.
Notices were served to 204 structures, including 77 in prominent areas like Nectar’s Colony, Doctors’ Colony, Kavuri Hills, and Amar Society. The authorities have made it clear that all constructions encroaching on the FTL and buffer zones must be voluntarily demolished within the given timeframe.
