In a surprising development, two more Members of the Legislative Council (MLCs) from the YSR Congress Party (YCP) have tendered their resignations, following the recent resignations of Rajya Sabha members Mopidevi Venkata Ramana and Bidha Mastan Rao. MLCs Karri Padmasree and Balli Kalyana Chakraborty submitted their resignation letters on Friday, which will be handed over to the Chairman of the Legislative Council.
Both MLCs have requested the chairman to approve their resignations without delay. Karri Padmasree was nominated as a YSRCP MLC under the Governor’s quota in March 2023. On the other hand, Balli Kalyana Chakraborty is the son of the late Balli Durgaprasad, who was elected as the MP from Tirupati Lok Sabha in 2019.
Following his father’s demise due to a heart attack in September 2020, Kalyana Chakraborty entered politics and was appointed as an MLC under the MLAs’ quota in 2021. Despite their relatively short tenures as MLCs, the reasons behind their sudden resignations remain unclear
