On Friday, the police arrested the director of an explosives factory and its manager following a blast that resulted in the death of six workers near Nagpur city. The director, Jay Khemka, and the factory manager, Sagar Deshmukh, were arrested and brought before a local court.
Union minister Nitin Gadkari visited the affected factory and announced that the management had pledged to provide Rs 25 lakh to the families of each deceased worker, with the state government offering an additional Rs 10 lakh to the relatives of each victim.
The factory, located in Dhamna village under Hingna police station limits, approximately 25 km from Nagpur city, experienced the blast around 1 pm on Thursday. As a result, nine injured individuals were hospitalized, and unfortunately, five women and one man succumbed to their injuries during treatment.
Most of the victims were working in the factory’s packaging unit when the explosion occurred. The Hingna police station officials registered a case against the director and the manager of the factory under various sections of the Indian Penal Code. Both individuals, director Khemka and manager Deshmukh, have been arrested.
Vijay Wadettiwar, Leader of Opposition in the Maharashtra Legislative Assembly, also visited the site and called for strict implementation of guidelines for such factories. He demanded Rs 35 lakh compensation and Rs 20,000 monthly pension for the families of the deceased.
