Superplum’s Fresh Lychee Launch: Reducing Waste, Connecting Growers & Consumers

Superplum has just launched its Lychee season as West Bengal and Bihar in India are at peak production. The company’s cleaned and destemmed packs are now available in several cities and will soon be available internationally.

India is the world’s second largest producer of Lychees, and the Indian varieties are known for their uniquely delicate flavor and complexity. However, up to 50 percent of the country’s lychee production goes to waste due to poor supply chains.

Superplum has developed a modern supply chain dedicated to keeping the delicious fruits fresh from the farm to the consumer, even if the consumer is 3,000 kilometers away. The litchis are chilled, trimmed, cleaned, and packed directly at the farm, ensuring they retain their natural flavor, aroma, and nutritional value. Superplum eliminates the need for sulfates to extend the shelf life of the fruit, ensuring that the lychees are safe to eat, pesticide-tested, and of the highest quality. Consumers can scan the QR code on the packaging to view the farm their lychees came from and check the farm’s pesticide test reports.

The brand’s lychees are available in Bengaluru, Delhi NCR, and Mumbai through various online channels including Zepto, Amazon Fresh, Blinkit, and Otipy. Consumers can also order directly from Superplum’s website at shop.superplum.com. The lychees are also available at Star Bazaar, Spar, Lulu, Modern Bazaar, and other local food stores. Superplum plans to introduce Indian lychees in the global market soon.

By reducing wastage and increasing consumer access, the company also aims to improve the returns for the growers. Superplum collaborates extensively with farmers to improve product quality and harvesting practices, ensuring lower wastage and higher incomes.

About Superplum: Superplum, a start-up funded by prominent investors from Silicon Valley, has been addressing the challenges in Indian agriculture since 2020 by establishing a sophisticated supply chain for fresh produce. The company works with farmers across the country to ensure high product quality right from the source. Their fruits are delivered to over 500 stores in Delhi-NCR and Bengaluru, including Spar, Lulu Hypermarket, and Star Bazaar. They are also available on Amazon Fresh, Zepto, Blinkit, Swiggy Instamart, and directly on shop.superplum.com. Each product is fully traceable from the farm to the consumer via a QR code integrated into their packaging.
