Storm Alert: Heavy Rains and Red Alerts Issued for Coastal Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu

Rain Alert: Low pressure has strengthened into a storm in the Southwest Bay of Bengal and is expected to cross the coast between Puducherry and Nellore close to Chennai on Thursday morning. As a result, widespread light to heavy rains are expected in Andhra Pradesh on Wednesday. Heavy to very heavy rains are expected in some places in South Coast and Rayalaseema, with gusty winds of 40-60 km per hour along the coast. Fishermen are advised not to go fishing, and people are urged to take proper precautions.

The storm is likely to bring heavy to very heavy rains to Prakasam, Nellore, Tirupati, Chittoor, Kadapa, and Annamaya districts. A red alert has been issued for these districts, as well as flash flood warnings for certain areas in Tamil Nadu. The storm, which is not expected to become a typhoon, will cross the coast as an air group and then move over South India and into the Arabian Sea. Additionally, heavy rains are expected in other districts, and the northeast monsoon has brought moist clouds from the Bay of Bengal, resulting in rainfall in various areas.

The Meteorological Department has announced red alerts and heavy rain warnings for several districts and advised against sea-related activities. In response, school authorities have announced holidays for schools in certain districts.
