There seems to be confusion regarding the Vizag Steel Plant. Following leaks about the merger of the steel plant with SAIL, the management made a sudden decision. While announcing that there will be no privatization, it has adversely affected the employees. The latest decision will result in 4,000 contract workers being laid off from the steel plant.
The IDs of the workers have been removed from the biometric system. It has been reported that the number of contract workers will be reduced as the blast furnace is running alone. 2,500 people have already been offered Voluntary Retirement Scheme (VRS) in the name of VRS. RINL has allocated 14,000 crores for this. Furthermore, it is known that the management is attempting to transfer 500 people to the Nagarnar Steel Plant.
However, trade unions have once again raised the alarm. A massive protest was held near the training center today. There are reports that the Center has backed down on the privatization of Vizag. Labor struggles and political lobbying have become crucial in protecting the steel plant. As a result, the NDA government is focused on stopping the divestment. Strong indications suggest that RINL will be merged with the Steel Authority of India.
Meanwhile, when the slogan of the right of Visakha steel Andhras became the slogan of the movement, the central government intervened. As a result, 32 people sacrificed their lives, and this large industry has faced many challenges in its long journey. That is why Vizag Steel is not just an industry but a sentiment. Every time it has faced financial losses, it has overcome the crisis and continues to survive.
The developments in the industry are causing concern among the workers’ families.
