Kadapa: May 4: AP Congress President YS Sharmila Reddy launched a scathing attack against the ruling YSR Congress Party (YSRCP), alleging that the promises made by YSRCP in the previous elections were disregarded after attaining power, particularly highlighting failures in areas like prohibition and agricultural commitments. She characterised this as promises being “blown away by the fan wind” following YSRCP’s ascent to power.

During an election campaign in Kadapa, Sharmila targeted key YSRCP leaders, describing them as a “gang” and accusing prominent figures like Deputy CM Amzath Bhasha, mayor Mallikarjun Reddy, and MLA Ravindranath Reddy of exploiting government lands and engaging in corruption.

Sharmila emphasised the significance of development in Kadapa, attributing past progress to former CM YS Rajasekhar Reddy. She criticised the current administration for what she perceived as a lack of substantial development and the failure to provide basic necessities like clean water.

Regarding the political landscape, Sharmila accused both YSRCP and TDP of aligning too closely with BJP, alleging that BJP’s policies foster discord among religious communities. She questioned BJP’s stance on religious reservations, particularly for backward Muslim families, and criticised Chief Minister Jagan Mohan Reddy’s silence on contentious issues like CAA, NRC, and alleged Christian persecution in Manipur.

Sharmila also addressed the legal controversy surrounding her opponent, Avinash Reddy, accused in Viveka’s murder case. She accused Jagan of shielding Avinash from legal consequences and urged voters to consider these serious allegations before casting their votes.

In her appeal to voters, Sharmila invoked the desire for justice, stating that YS Viveka’s soul yearns for her victory as Kadapa MP. She asserted that the Congress party is the only entity capable of bringing about meaningful change and progress in the region.
