Sensex Hits Historic 80,000 Mark, Nifty Reaches All-Time High

The stock market started on a positive note on Wednesday, with the Sensex reaching a historic high of 80,000 for the first time and the Nifty also hitting a new all-time high. This was due to significant buying in bank stocks and strong global market trends. The 30-share BSE Sensex surged 597.77 points to a new high of 80,039.22, while the Nifty rose by 168.3 points to reach 24,292.15, a fresh record peak. Leading the gains in the Sensex were stocks like HDFC Bank, ICICI Bank, Kotak Mahindra Bank, Bajaj Finance, IndusInd Bank, Bharti Airtel, and Nestle. However, Tata Consultancy Services, Sun Pharma, Infosys, and Tata Motors were among the laggards. In Asian markets, Seoul, Tokyo, and Hong Kong were trading positively, while Shanghai was trading lower. US markets also closed higher on Tuesday. The BSE benchmark declined by 34.74 points or 0.04 percent to settle at 79,441.45 on Tuesday. It had reached a record peak of 79,855.87 during the day by jumping 379.68 points or 0.47 percent. The Nifty dropped by 18.10 points or 0.07 percent to 24,123.85, after climbing 94.4 points or 0.39 percent to a lifetime high of 24,236.35 during intra-day trading. Furthermore, the global oil benchmark, Brent crude, rose by 0.56 percent to USD 86.72 per barrel. Foreign Institutional Investors (FIIs) sold equities worth Rs 2,000.12 crore on Tuesday, according to exchange data.
