Sajjala questions ECI’s impartiality in handling of Macherla EVM incident

The Capital News
Raising concerns over the actions of the Election Commission of India (ECI), YSRCP leader Sajjala Ramakrishna Reddy on Thursday posed several questions to the ECI regarding its handling of the incident involving the destruction of an Electronic Voting Machine (EVM) at the Palvai Gate polling booth in the Macharla constituency by YSRCP MLA Pinnelli Ramakrishna Reddy.
In a tweet, Sajjala stated that while Pinnelli would address the charges legally, the YSRCP has specific questions that the ECI must answer. He queried the source of the Palvai Gate video, noting that it is from the official webcasting source and should be the exclusive property of the EC. Sajjala questioned how the video was leaked and why the EC acted hastily without verifying its authenticity.
Sajjala pointed out that the ECI had acknowledged a total of seven instances of EVM damage in the Macherla constituency. He questioned why the EC has not released all these instances in full length, except for the Palvai Gate incident, to expose the culprits and ensure appropriate action is taken.
Moreover, Sajjala highlighted clear evidence of the TDP goons attacking innocent voters in the videos he attached, asking why no action has been initiated by the Election Commission in these instances. “In light of the above, we strongly urge the ECI to consider all instances of electoral indiscipline fairly and nonpartisanly, and initiate appropriate action to uphold the Commission’s role as an impartial umpire,” he urged.
