Rising social media trolling casts shadow over Jr NTR’s upcoming film “Devara”

As the highly anticipated Tollywood film “Devara”, starring Junior NTR, gears up for its release in just 10 days, the surge in social media trolling and escalating fan wars has left producers anxious. The movie, which has garnered immense attention, is now facing an intense online backlash, raising concerns about its reception and box office performance. Negative trolling against “Devara” has escalated on various platforms, with criticisms targeting everything from the film’s poster design to the placement of songs in the credits.

Rival fan groups have been actively trying to undermine the film, sparking a defensive reaction from Jr NTR’s dedicated fanbase. In response, fans of the actor have vowed to boycott a rival hero’s film slated for release on December 1, intensifying the digital fan wars. This issue reflects a broader trend in Tollywood, where social media platforms have become battlegrounds for fan factions, leading to trolling campaigns that can significantly impact a film’s box office performance.

In recent times, some big-budget films also faced massive online trolling, both before and after their release, adding pressure to the filmmakers. The rise of over-the-top (OTT) platforms has added another layer of complexity. With the option to stream movies at home, audiences are increasingly opting to wait for films to be available online, especially if reviews are mixed or negative. This shift in viewing habits has further dented the box office revenues, particularly for high-budget productions like “Devara”.

Amid this hostile environment, producers are increasingly hesitant to engage with the media, fearing that more exposure might invite additional negativity. “Protecting films from online trolling has become a monumental task,” said a producer. With Devara set to release soon, all eyes will be on how the film navigates the online storms, with fans and industry insiders hopeful that the film’s quality will shine through the negativity.
