A fresh vacancy was created in the Rajya Sabha on Friday as House chairperson Jagdeep Dhankhar accepted the resignation of K Keshava Rao, who had quit his membership as a BRS MP after joining the Congress.
Rao, a member of the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS), had been representing Telangana in the Rajya Sabha since 2020. Following his joining of the Congress on Wednesday, he resigned from his membership of the Upper House of Parliament on Thursday. Dhankhar accepted his resignation on Friday, resulting in his seat in the Rajya Sabha becoming vacant, according to official sources. With Rao’s resignation, a total of 16 seats in the House are now vacant.
Prior to this, 15 seats were already vacant – four from Jammu and Kashmir, three from Maharashtra, two each from Assam and Bihar, and one each from Haryana, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan and Tripura, as per the latest tally.
