Heavy rainfall expected in six districts

Heavy rains are falling in Tirupati, Chittoor, Nellore, Prakasam, and Annamaya districts due to the low pressure in the Bay of Bengal. As a result, the collectors and officials of the respective districts have been alerted. A holiday has been declared for educational institutions in those 5 districts on Monday. People have been warned not to come out unless it is an emergency. The demand for a holiday is also being heard in the districts where heavy rains are falling. Officials have warned that there is a possibility of heavy to very heavy rains in the state till Thursday.

It is raining extensively in many districts of Andhra Pradesh. It is raining all along the coast from Tirupati to Vizag. It is raining in Tirupati, Nellore, Prakasam, Bapatla, Palnadu, Machilipatnam, Kakinada, and Visakhapatnam. Meteorological department experts said that heavy rains will continue till Monday afternoon. Rains will also occur in Annamaiya, Chittoor, and Kadapa districts of Rayalaseema, they said.

Meanwhile, the Collector has announced a holiday for all government and private educational institutions in the combined Nellore district. A holiday has been declared for educational institutions in the wake of early warnings due to rains in the combined district. Due to the effect of low pressure and cyclone, Nellore district has been receiving non-stop rain since late night. The authorities were alerted by this. District Collector O. Anand, SP Krishna Kant, JC Karthik paid special attention to coastal areas and Penna coast. Fishermen have been warned not to go fishing in the sea. Fishermen who had gone hunting were ordered to return.

Nellore District Collector Anand said that due to the influence of low pressure and typhoon in the Bay of Bengal, there is a possibility of heavy rains in the district in the next three days. On Sunday, he held a meeting with the officials through Webex. The district administration should be alert for three days from Monday to Wednesday. Heavy rains are expected. All the officials were ordered to be ready to face any situation in case of a typhoon.

  • Pennanadi ridges should be examined

Officials of Police, Revenue, and Irrigation Departments should inspect the banks of Penna River. Even if the ridges are weak, early measures should be taken to identify areas where floods are likely to occur. If there is a flood in Penna, the people of the flooded villages in the river basin should be alerted. The owners were contacted and ordered to keep boats and excavators ready. Vehicles and people should be prepared for their evacuation. The aim is to ensure that there is no loss of life or livestock. Essential food items, milk, vegetable vehicles, and diesel should be kept ready. The drinking water tanks in the villages should be filled with water first and kept ready.
