Rahul Gandhi, a Congress leader, has resigned from the Wayanad Lok Sabha seat in Kerala and will retain the Rae Bareli constituency in Uttar Pradesh, as announced by the Lok Sabha Secretariat. His resignation is effective from June 18. Congress chief Mallikarjun Kharge confirmed the decision after discussions at his residence in the national capital. Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, Rahul Gandhi’s sister, will make her electoral debut by contesting the Wayanad bypoll. With Rahul Gandhi’s resignation, the Congress’ tally in the Lower House now stands at 98. Wayanad will be the first constituency to go for a bypoll in the 18th Lok Sabha.
